Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

I think it has to do with the fact that Kurt Cobain blew his head off with a shotgun. Aerosmith were a real rock band with talent before they turned to hair metal (like many others) to resurrect or sustain their careers in the 1980s.. Regarding Kurts suicide that was very sad but his band are still...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

Aerosmith were a real rock band with talent before they turned to hair metal (like many others) to resurrect or sustain their careers in the 1980s. Aerosmith is not a hair metal band--they were a rock band who did hair metal. And continue to do so. "Rocks" or "Music from another Dimension" take you...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

Hi again
I think my point was the press exaggeration of the impact of these genres. If nirvana really helped put an end to the hair metal fluff what aren't they still here to argue about it with aerosmith.

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

From Babysquid: I think the point I was trying to make was that Aerosmith's trio of Alicia Silverstone videos really helped the sales of get a grip and cement Aerosmith's status. I know but if you look at some of the posts in this thread that existed before you joined, you would be led to believe t...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

From Babysquid: I'm don't know about Van Halen but Aerosmith's follow up to Pump didn't come out for another 2 years after HS by which time Grunge had peaked. So did "The Last Temptation" but it didn't do as well as "Pump" did. > then 'crying' and 'crazy' came along with their Alicia Silverstone an...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

From Babysquid: Desmond Child is principally a song writer/doctor so if his name is on the credits that would normally mean he wrote part of it. All of that is true except that on "Trash", in terms of composing, one could argue he had a wider role than that. Of course your right. I might have phras...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

>Timing was part of it. The musical landscape was beginning to change. I was going to mention that as well, but I'm not sure how big a difference that made as the true impact of that took a while to be noticeable. It didn't seem to affect Van Halen or Aerosmith for example. >Though "Love's a Loaded...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

I'm quite sure that "Might As Well Be On Mars" was a song written mainly by Dick Wagner. I think it was a song written not for Hey Stoopid but prior to that and submitted for Trash. I'm guessing that Alice either added or changed lyrics to the original Wagner penned song. Also, I'm guessing that De...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

I've just listened to these albums back to back and I'm of the opinion that that Hey Stoopid is let down by the second side, the whole lp is too long anyway (a common trait with post CD Lps) . If I was producer I'd've certainly jettisoned hurricane years , little by little, die for you and dirty dre...

Re: billion dollar babies BATTLE AXE

there were issues with the original mix, apparently Jack Richardson remixed it but the album had to be withdrawn first then remixed and re-released. Any momentum was completely lost as a result and the band split up after a year. Ted I listened to this last night and I must have one of the earlier ...

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop

Hi there! This is my first post so please be gentle. From my own point of view the first time I heard "Poison" was my road to Damascus moment. I was a 13 year old kid off school sick watching the TV and the Poison video came on. It completely changed my life. Previously I'd never had the slightest i...
