TB: How difficult would it have been to include more live MoL tracks?
amuk: Who said it was "difficult"?
Real answer from DIMMA:
As far as omissions of live tracks from MOL go, this again has a lot to do with what material is known to exists and available to us. As far as I know , besides a few shows recorded from the audience, there are only about 3 shows in the bandmembers private collections that were recorded from the soundboard that include tracks from MOL. These are from Toledo, OH, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and one other which is an uncomplete recording from an unknown show on the US Holiday tour, in December ´73.
I have still to hear the Toledo show but as far as I know it ended disruptly after only a couple songs (as detailed in Bob Greene´s book) before they got to performing any of the four songs from MOL which they performed on that tour.
The four songs performed on that tour were BIG APPLE DREAMIN´ (HIPPO), MUSCLE OF LOVE, HARD HEARTED ALICE and WORKING UP A SWEAT.
From the “unknown” soundboard recording, both BAD and MOL are unfortunately marred by deterioration of the recording while HHA and WUAS are missing from this incomplete recording.
That left us with the sole recording from Rio de Janeiro from which we chose MOL as neither HHA or WUAS sounded very good on this soundboard recording. BIG APPLE DREAMING was not performed by the band at that show.
busted!

Absolutely not. We still could have included them - we just decided it not to for the reasons he stated. There were some very decent audience recordings that we could have used. It would have been easy to do so and not "difficult" at all. You assumed it was but it was not.

Yes, I do. Try to stop making assumptions and you might find your experience here to be more productive and pleasant.

One year later and I'm still impressed with Old School! Dennis Dunaway signed my "yearbook" last night and now I love it even more!
I still tip my hat to all those involved in contributing their efforts (especially in the little time there was to compile everything before manufacturing). I run a small record label and all the work I do to put out records is just the tip of the iceberg in comparison to the massive undertaking of a project like Old School. Cheers!

Re: OLD SCHOOL 1964-1974 one year later...
why would I be sore Toronto Bob when I won the argument re Alice being bigger than Led Zep in 73 and most agree with meToronto Bob wrote:Hey steven_....
Are you still sore from trying to argue Alice was "bigger" than Zeppelin in 1973?
DIMMA is the only person that had concrete reasons about why certain material could not be included in the box set. He clearly and graciously explained, there was no nonsense and it gave everyone information they can use. The cannot be said for amuk.
I still think my criticisms are fair and not unduly harsh. Clearly no one in the band or close to the band, kept a somewhat complete or quality audio archive. That's just a fact, yet I mention it and somehow resident experts like amuk take exception to it and people like you say "Andy argues his case rationally" and that's something I need to "learn how to do". What's so irrational about pointing out omissions/short comings in the set?
Other acts just as old or older than the ACG have managed to release quality archival material. Riddle me this steven - Since Alice was (arguably)the biggest act of 1973, and no one took it upon themselves to record and KEEP the tapes of the Holiday tour, why the hell shouldn't a fan, years later be able to point that out and lament how this box could/should of been better.
If that's irrational to you, so be it, I believe otherwise.

So King Of The Vented Spleen sing along now!
By day he's a bitter man making statements making gripes
He's thinks he knows it all he thinks he is the guy
But we all know when his PC's on at night
He's the King Of The Vented Spleen
He stares at the screen right there knows where he belongs
Has a poke at Sickthings folk even when he's wrong
The Old School Boxset he thinks it don't belong
Coz he's the King Of The Vented Spleen
Soundboard recordings keep flashing across his mind
He thinks he could have been Bob Ezrin
If he was born in another time

Re: OLD SCHOOL 1964-1974 one year later...
See now, I provided you with industry links that showed worldwide that Zep albums had higher chart positions and for longer periods of time and in more areas around the globe. If you call that winning the arguement, I can't help you. I'm still not clear on why that bit of revisionist history is so important to you anyway. Time has clearly shown Zep music sales have had far greater staying power anyhow and touring througout the seventies LZ was clearly the bigger act but what evs.
It's not the worst thing in the world to be wrong, just admit it and move on don't try to emulate amuk.

It really is pathetic the way you involve me in a topic I have nothing to do with.

You need to get over yourself Toronto Bob, the evidence has been made clear to you that Alice Cooper was the biggest act on the planet in 1973, it's not revisionist it's a fact live with it.
I've even said Led Zep were probably the biggest band of that whole decade (im a fan for heaven's sake) but NOT in that year.
You haven't the grace to admit you are wrong and have lost the argument and as for your personal vendetta against Andy, it is as he says pathetic and this whole delusion of yours that you would have done a better job on The Old School Box set is laughable and shows us all why nothing you say has any gravitas.
Stop wasting time trying to convince us all of your wisdom, you are no King Solomon but you are the King Of The Vented Spleen!

Hi,
just got a mail from HMV Japan that on 0ctober 25 the Old School Box will be released in Japan for the price (roughly calculated) of 48 euro or 68 US dollars.
The add mentioned the box + 7 single-cd + vinyl album!!!
If this is a reissue with a different packing it still would be an AMAZING prize!!
Here's the link :

Anyone has more info on this ??
