Question about phrase in "Illstrated Guide To AC"
I've been reading "The Illustrated Guide to AC"
I love it ! Good information and juicy tidbits here and there that I didnt know.
On page 179 of the New Edition...Under the Sgt.Peppers movie part it says.....
"Some fans may have felt it better if Alice had stayed in the hospital (avoiding the movie) in view of the damage it did to the careers of some of the performers."
What does that mean ?????????

Re: Question about phrase in "Illstrated Guide To AC"
It probably means that it was the worst movie of it's kind and anyone who took part in it was open to ridicule.

All of that is possibly true, but I'm not sure that Steve Martin (or anybody else who was in it) is worrying about it.

I quite like the movie especially the Frampton / Bee Gee renditions of these classic Beatles track.
Campy and harmless...

Not now but I'm sure they were cringing at the time. Alice didn't come out of it too bad but that moustache was awful.

Agreed, I understand that he was trying to kill his "persona" but he looked like a cross dressing Tony Orlando...pitkin88 wrote: Alice didn't come out of it too bad but that moustache was awful.

The moustache wasn't so bad. Gave Alice a sinister look for Because.
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...

Personally, I thought that movie was one of the worst movies ever. And I didn't like Alice's mustache either.

I'm not denying that, but that's not what Dale Sherman wrote.

Re: Question about phrase in "Illstrated Guide To AC"
I think I read that somewhere...That "Alice" the character would never have a moustache so Alice the person grew it to separate the two as far as public persona was concerned.
That or he was far more impressed with Groucho than previously indicated...

Alice has often said that he looked like Frank Zappa when he (Alice) had that style of facial hair.

Re: Question about phrase in "Illstrated Guide To AC"
Maybe he was seperating the two with the moustache.
I can believe that.
And yes...he looks a bit like Zappa and Tony Orlando.
The movie was "Cheesey"....but enjoyable for me. I have always liked the BeeGees and I had an eye for Frampton too. But it was the Aerosmith part I enjoyed seeing. Didnt see much of them during that time. I was wondering if there was something more to it, that someone here may know.
It sounds to me like some were embarressed with the movie. But I found it very fun...I was 15. And "Tommy" was horrible.

Re: Question about phrase in "Illstrated Guide To AC"
true, and the quote was: "in view of the damage it did.." implying that actual damage was done to the actors' careers, based upon participating this movie. not sure what the sources are for this statement? exactly whose career suffered damage due to the movie? sure, the movie stunk and everyone knew it, but it surely did NOT damage any careers. maybe the gaffer or boom operator?A_MichaelUK wrote:>All of that is possibly true, but I'm not sure that Steve Martin (or anybody else who was in it) is worrying about it.
of course, look at the source of the quote.
