I gotta say the chicken thing is ridiculous. Was this intended as comedy?

Even as a comedy idea, it is just .... I mean..... It's so..... ::((: :nono:

I wonder if the chicken followed him into the asylum though ?

I'll cut Alice some slack since this right at the height of his drinking problem. But yikes.

Thanks for posting .......Never seen the Carson clip before .......
Brave attempt at something different.....but one of the rare occasions where Alice has ever been ,dare I say it .....Boring? As was said before , probably the alcohol was becoming an issue. Great to hear the lyrics though.

I would still love Ezrin to remaster the patchy Lace & Whiskey album , as both tracks on TLACOAC sound so much better...maybe one day :(

I always LOVED the chickens. The fact they are getting revenge on Alice after Toronto '69. Self referencial and amusing as hell. Brilliant!

That footage was officially available for sale directly from the production company (and maybe still is).

No. That footage was from "The Pink Lady And Jeff" television show.

After seeing this, it's now crystal clear to me why Alice's career went into a tailspin.

Even the great FTI album couldn't redeem this silliness. I'm wondering which people in Alice's organization thought this a good idea?

I'm all for Alice's tongue and cheek humor, but this was just absolutely horrible.

As a fan though, it's great to see it still.

I agree with Si, I've always loved the whole Maurice Escargot portion of the 1977 show, chickens and all. Obviously it's an impossibility to ever see it done again, but I would love it!

The show itself may have come off better... of course I've never seen it except for minimal footage. But any performance on Carson back in the day had a lot of viewers, and most had to be saying "WTF?"

It's amazing when you compare this to what Alice Cooper was just 4 years prior.

Re Lace and Whiskey..liked the vocal on Carson show..the chickens seemed like an audition for the muppets..IMO it could have been worse he could have sang No More Love etc..the track lace and whiskey probably would sound good back to back with Crazy Little Child..street punk/gangster overtones..thanks for posting as hadnt seen the Carson one..I know a few people who gave up on Alice between Goes to Hell and L and W..me I stuck around and enjoyed From the Inside and many others..

I suspect the bit worked better live than on the small screen, much like Calico's "Sunset Babies" schtick would be a little uncomfortably over-the-top on late-night TV years later. And in a way, that's not so different from the grand gestures of theater always looking a little silly in close-up.

Still, it didn't help that the end of Alice's intro was followed by an almost interminable silence before the song actually started!

You mean the original video (featuring a very skinny Alice in double-exposure)was on PLAJ, right?

I don't know where the YouTube footage came from.

The footage posted above is from Pink LAdy And Jeff, and was LATER used as a promo when the song was shown.

I'm feeling old. I saw the Carson bit when it aired---had my little cassette recorder held up to the TV speaker to record the interview and performance, which I've offered for many years from my SickThings2 website as an MP3.
