Catching Up 30 Dec 2014

A few mainstream news sources have jumped on a report at the DC Beacon refering to an interview in HM magazine in which Alice talks in depth about his religious beliefs, and making it appear that this is a new interview. There's been a little more coverage of the Pudding show in the last couple of days including a review at the Examiner.

Variety reports that 'School's Out' has been inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame. Each year a special member committee determines a group of recordings, at least 25 years old, which exhibit qualitative or historical importance to induct. A bit of a shame Variety choose to use a picture of Alice from 1975 rather then the band who recorded the song.

Sadly I also have to report the passing of another important figure in the history of Alice Cooper,. Michael Ashley Pandel, on Deceember 10th. Pandel moved to NYC to work as the Press Officer for the band that became “Alice Cooper”, directing publicity and promotional strategies, remaining throughout their most successful years before moving on in 1975 to become a successful restaurateur.

Los Angeles, CA - For the first time ever, Blues Rock Guitarist Steve Hunter, renowned for his work with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, is captured on film playing a career-spanning anthology in an intimate setting with some of the worlds finest players.

Alice Cooper and Steve Hunter Remember Dick Wagner 30 Jul 2014

Alice Cooper And Dick WagnerThe following is from Alice Cooper on the passing of Dick Wagner earlier today:
"Even though we know it's inevitable, we never expect to suddenly lose close friends and collaborators.  Dick Wagner and I shared as many laughs as we did hit records.  He was one of a kind.  He is irreplaceable.  His brand of playing and writing is not seen anymore, and there are very few people that I enjoyed working with as much as I enjoyed working with Dick Wagner.  A lot of my radio success in my solo career had to do with my relationship with Dick Wagner.  Not just on stage, but in the studio and writing.  Some of my biggest singles were ballads that I wrote with Dick Wagner.  Most of "Welcome To My Nightmare" was  written with Dick.  There was just a magic in the way we wrote together.  He was always able to find exactly the right chord to match perfectly with what I was doing.  I think that we always think our friends will be around as long as we are, so to hear of Dick's passing comes as a sudden shock and an enormous loss for me, Rock N Roll and to his family."

Steve Hunter also posted the following earlier today:
"Sad news today...my old compadre Dick Wagner passed away this morning after a hard fought battle with a very bad lung infection. I know there are lots of you out there who know about the two of us and our history together. From 1973 until about 1978 Dick and I were lucky enough to play on some pretty cool records and some amazing stages all over the world with some incredible artists. We had a thing when we played together like none other I’ve experienced. It might be because, for the most part, I think we were opposites. But I think that’s what helped us play so well together. We hardly ever had to work anything out...we just did it and it was always right. It was truly a phenomenon. There was always mutual respect. After 1978 we went our separate ways but always stayed in loose touch. And we tried many times through the years to put something together as the Hunter/Wagner team again, but it just never seemed to work. We were at our best as a team I think, when we were focusing on the material of artists like Lou Reed and Alice Cooper. That always seemed to be when the magic happened. Dick has written and co written some real Rock N Roll classics that will live on, as well as his playing. The stuff we did together back in the 70s was really and truly magical. With much love and respect, Rest In Peace my dear old Compadre"

Dick Wagner R.I.P. 30 Jul 2014

Dick Wagner

From the Dick Wagner Maestro Facebook Page:

MissWensday Timebomb
Providence, RI

"It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow I have to let you know that Dick Wagner has left this world. Dick had a huge heart, which is perhaps why it gave him so much trouble, it was simply too full of love, of music and life. His creativity and passion will live on forever in the legacy he has left for us, in his music and his words. We have so much of him to celebrate. Dick was prolific not only in the tangible realm of what we can see and hear but in the boundless energy of his spirit, which will never die. He was a fighter, but in the end his body couldn’t keep up with his spirit, and so he lays to rest. Dick said in 2013, “Love is in the air. Breathe deep.” Take Dick’s advice into your own hearts, and notice all of the beauty in the world, even when it seems cruel and unfair."

I'm sure I speak for everyone here in sending Dick's family and friends our deepest condolences. I will post more details when they are made public. The world has lost a legend today but his music will live on forever.

Alice Thrift Store 25 Jul 2014

Good Morning Arizona has a short video about the opening of the Alice Cooper's Attic and Thrift Store, a charity shop in aid of 'The Rock' and which features some of Alice's personal and tour items which opens tomorrow at 13627 N. 32nd Street on the southeast corner of 32nd Street and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.

I've not been posting every review that has shown up from the current Motley Crue/Alice Cooper tour, I think most people are probbaly aware that they are nearly all reporting the same thing, but here are a couple of recent ones that go into a little more detail. Check out Phoenix New Times, Metal Assault, Oregon Live,

There's a couple of short interviews with Nita Strauss, one in LA Weekly and a second at Artist Direct.

In a recent Chicago New-Times interview Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry mentions that he was recently in the studio with Alice, Johnny Depp and ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney for an undesclosed project. It's easy to jump to the conculsion that this is for the forthcoming Alice Cooper 'Hollywood Vampires' cover project (We already know Depp is on it, and Perry wouldn`t be a great surprise) there is no actual suggestion that is what the recording is for. It's refered as a "top secret project" and the forthcoming covers album is hardly a secret. We'll just have to wait and see.

Lastly a quick reminder that the awesome Black Star Riders (previosuly Thin Lizzy), featuring Damon Johnson and Jimmy Degrasso from previous Alice Cooper bands along with Lizzy legend Scott Gorham, Ricky Warwick and Robbie Crane are currently out on the road in Europe. I was lucky enough to see them last night and they are tearing it up with a combination of excellent new original material and Lizzy classics. Don't miss the chance to catch them if you can as they finish up their trip through Europe including a few more UK dates and the Wacken festival in Germany next month.

New Alice Cooper Comic In September 19 Jun 2014

Dynamite Comics have announced a new ongoing Alice Cooper comic book series starting in September. Issue 1 will  feature two covers; a main cover by comic book legend David Mack (Kabuki), as well as an Exclusive Photo incentive cover featuring Alice himself. The interior pages are drawn by Eman Casallos.
The press release continues as follows:

"In Alice Cooper #1, rock n' roll legend Alice Cooper was never a stranger to the mystic and the macabre. His stage shows were the stuff of legend, featuring snakes, pyrotechnics, and the invocation of dark themes and darker forces. But while he was a legend in the waking world, few knew his role as "The Lord of Nightmares" beyond it, where he watched over us while we dreamed, and delivered horrors unto the deserving. Only, someone took it all away from him, cast him out of his realm and locked him away... until now. And if he's going to reclaim his dark throne, he's going to need all the help he can get!
"We're doing cool things with Dynamite," Cooper said. "I always say that the best thing about being in a comic book is that they draw you with great abs! Artistically, for me there is hardly a better medium.  There is so much you can do in the form of a comic that we'd never been able to do on stage.  It's just a different way of storytelling, and it really has almost limitless possibilities.  We're looking forward to stretching the existing boundaries of the comic medium again.  We have new stories to tell, but we'll do it with the same theatrical, sinister sensibility that comes with the name ‘Alice Cooper'.  This is just the beginning!  Welcome to my new Nightmares!"
"Alice Cooper is one of the great, enduring rock personas, first and foremost," says writer Joe Harris. "Alice Cooper has a fantastic visual hook, as he made use of the signature eye black that defines his character. I hope they enjoy what they'll see as a fun take and interpretation on an iconic character."
"Alice Cooper's on-stage persona, the ultimate shock rocker, is perfect for comic books," Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite, said.  "From his comic book debut in Marvel Premiere to The Last Temptation by Neil Gaiman, I've enjoyed the appearances Alice has made in comics.  We are excited to develop captivating and hypnotic comic storylines that incorporate the Sinister Showman's gothic flair and grandiose vision. This is going to be one hell of a ride!"

Dynamite is also releasing a fully-remastered Deluxe Edition printing of Neil Gaiman's The Last Temptation, the groundbreaking graphic novel collaboration between the bestselling author and rock music icon Alice Cooper, with art by Michael Zulli. Neil Gaiman's The Last Temptation will also be offered as an advance solicited book as a special 20th Anniversary Edition. The book is scheduled for an October release. This commemorative edition will be available unsigned as well as signed by the entire creative team - Gaiman, the multiple award-winning author of Sandman, Coraline, and American Gods, alongside artist Michael Zulli, and the Sinister Showman himself, Alice Cooper!
The new edition celebrates the 20th anniversary of the project, the first printing since its original Marvel run, presented in color, featuring Michael Zulli's art remastered by David Curiel at InLight Studios! This collection contains complete scripts to all three issues, plus Neil Gaiman's original outline and correspondence with Alice Cooper. Re-enter the world of the Grand Guignol and the Theatre of the Real as Dynamite celebrates the release of this classic series!"

As some of these dates clash with the Alice Cooper shows, now starting on June 28th in Michigan, it would appear that she won`t be able to play with Alice for, at least, the start of the Motley Crue tour.
This seems to be confirmed by a recent interview with Ori on the Polish Bon Jovi fanclub site where she says: "Well, now I’m gonna get back to L.A. for a while, and then I’m going back to Europe with Alice for a short run of shows . Then I’m gonna concentrate on recording the album and promoting it by touring with Richie. But if Alice calls me to join some of his shows and I’d be able to do that, I’m gonna join him, definitely. Alice is like a family, as is the rest of his band for me and I’d always be glad to join them."
As the Crue tour takes up most of 2014 this would suggest Orianthi will not be performing with Alice, barring guest appearances, for the foreseeable future. (Thanks to kstone for interview link).
Richie Sambora's European shows, with special guest Orianthi, are as follows:
June 15th Download Festival, Donington
June 17th 013, Tilburg, Holland
June 19th Beethovensaal,  Stuttgart, Germany
June 20th Kesselhaus, Munich, Germany
June 22nd Huxley's, Berlin, Germany
June 24th E-WERK, Cologne, Germany
June 26th Bataclan, Paris, France
June 28th Calling Festival, London
June 30th Olympia, Dublin, Ireland
June 1st Ulster Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland
July 3rd O2 ABC, Glasgow, Scotland
