Late Late Show 02 Oct 2008

The AC.com newsletter have posted the following update on what happened to the 'Late Late Show' performance.
"Well folks, he’s at it again… Alice Cooper, your favourite shock rocker, has again succeeded in shocking the censors in America.  But we have just the remedy for you! Last night Alice played “Vengeance Is Mine” from 'Along Came A Spider' on 'The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson' on the CBS Network in the U.S.  And he wasn’t allowed to do it the way he wanted to! He wanted to re-enact a piece of his new video by picking a female victim from the audience to choke with a silk scarf.  But the TV Station wouldn’t allow it!  Huh?!  Like we don’t see violence on the news?  Anyways…..Alice wasn’t allowed to.  All’s not fair in TV and Rock ‘n’ Roll it seems."

Alice Censored 01 Oct 2008

Not quite sure what's going on here, as last report was that Alice would be on the 'Late Late Show' tonight, not the 29th, but anyway Blabbermouth are reporting that Alice's performance of 'Vengeance Is Mine' was censored. They say:
"Alice Cooper, appearing on CBS-TV's "Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" last night (Monday, September 29), was the victim, yet again, of corporate meddling in his rock 'n' roll. It's called censorship and Cooper, currently promoting his "Along Came A Spider" (SPV) album, has met this particular beast numerous times during his 40-year career.
The album tells the story of a serial killer and as part of the song, Alice was going to re-enact a piece of his video by picking a female victim from the audience to choke with a silk scarf during the band's live performance of "Vengeance is Mine". (Both the album version of the song and the video feature ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash.) What viewers saw was a truncated version of what actually happened. Unfortunately, the "murder" of one of his victims was just too much for CBS-TV's censors (although Ferguson loved it) and, as such, his request was denied."
They also add "The uncensored version of the new thre-song video including "Vengeance is Mine" can be seen on MySpace.com/AlongCameAVideo as well as YouTube.com/SPV and Imeem.com/AliceCooper starting Wednesday, October 1."

Dick Wagner News 28 Aug 2008

Dick Wagner has posted the following update on his website about his health and current projects:

For those of you who are logging on to hear a health report from me: It's the middle of July 2008, and I am happy to report that I am healthier than I have been in several years. I made it past July 3rd, the first anniversary of my death and resurrection and am looking forward to many years of living still to come. Today I actually read through 30 pages of messages on my guest book, all inquiries and well wishes concerning my health… and I broke into tears.  I guess I never realized how many fans from around the world actually care for my well being. I am humbled and thankful for each message and intend on personally answering each one in the next few days, but as for today…I am in the middle of writing new songs and can't break the focus right now. I hope you'll understand…it feels so good to be making music again that I am also happier than I have been in years.  I'm starting to practice my guitar again and although it's a struggle, I will be fully functional and ready to get back on the stage very soon. I'd, like also to report that my book "Not Only Women Bleed" is finished and ready for release as soon as I can settle on the proper publisher.  It's in the works and I hope you all will enjoy my memories and stories of Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll. I have written 28 songs in the last 3 months…I'm on a roll and I am excited.  Hang in there with me and lets share a great musical future.
Thank you for your friendship and support.

Earthquakes and Broken Bones, But The Tour Continues 08 Aug 2008

Several sites are now reporting that during the recent video shoot Alice broke a rib during a localised earthquake! The full press release is as follows:
"While filming a promotional film on July 29th for his new 'Along Came A Spider' (SPV) album at Linda Vista Hospital, an abandoned facility in East L.A., a 5.4 earthquake shook Los Angeles to its very core. He happened to be choking a nurse at the time. The 5.4 quake was the strongest since the devastating 1994 Northridge quake, shaking Alice, the band, and everyone on the set (including director Piggy D) into a stunned silence. The epicenter was in nearby Chino Hills.
“The floor started moving. Whoa, this is more powerful than I thought! I hope they keep it! You can’t get special effects like that,” enthused Cooper, who had just wrapped production on the film that features lengthy portions - up to two minutes each - of “Vengeance Is Mine,” (In Touch With) Your Feminine Side” and “Killed By Love,” all from the new album.
The current "Psycho-Drama" tour, approximately 100 shows from July 5 to December 4, is still as physical as ever. In Redmond, Oregon last week, fans watched fascinated as Alice took a violent fall. Few noticed just how crushing the thud was. Most figured it was part of the show. Alice, hurting, continued with the performance and with a few performances after that, negating any suggestions to get himself checked out. Finally, giving in to those whose job it is to keep him healthy, he learned he had broken a rib and suffered ligament damage. Doctors advised him it would take three weeks of inactivity and rest to fully recover.
Fat chance. Cooper continues on tour, unrestrained.
So, not an earthquake, not a cracked rib, not ligament damage, can stop Alice from entertaining his loyal fans.
The show must go on indeed."

Producer Talk 26 Jun 2008

GuitarSite.com has a new interview with 'Along Came A Spider' producer Greg Hampton during which Greg discusses his career and the new Alice album.
With 'Vengeance Is Mine' now available to hear, Greg posted this through on the making of the song:
"Alice kept telling me he had these lyrics for something he wanted to call "Vengeance is mine". The music for was pretty much completely finished one morning over coffee, with my little hand help recorder.... The next day Eric came up and it was  just me and Eric at my place for the most part - we finished the entire backing track. The wahwah leads in the verses I was just goofing around - but I kept it! ...then  I took the track up to Danny's the next day. Alice loved it ...Danny added the little "Iron-man" type riff in the middle breakdown bit - we cut Alice's vocals the same day ...  and SLASH added some extra screaming lead guitars a few weeks later at my buddies studio in Nth Hollywood... I think we had about 16 hours total into the entire song...including ALICE'S vocals  -and the final mix...."

Alice appeared on the cover of "Rock" magazine in Germany recently. More info (In German) here.

US Pre-Order For Along Came A Spider 10 Jun 2008

AmazonUS are now taking pre-orders for the new Alice Cooper album 'Along Came A Spider'. Click here to order yours now.

Record Label SPV have posted the following publicity announcement on their MySPace page which includes what is presumably the final tracklisting:

"There are only a handful of rock artists that have proven to be as enduring and influential as Alice Cooper has over the years. Name just about any hard rock artist, and they’ve probably borrowed a thing or two from Alice. And on his latest studio recording, ‘Along Came A Spider’ (issued via SPV Records on July 29), Alice has returned with a concept album with a sinister streak.

‘A dark and menacing album for dark and menacing times’ is perhaps the most fitting description for Alice’s 25th studio album overall, as a chilling conceptual thread runs through the songs, which are told through the voice of a serial killer named Spider - one that Alice describes as “an arachnophobic psychopath” (in the song “Catch Me If You Can”). Alice, the master storyteller, weaves a web of danger, intrigue and death that rivals his best work.

Co-produced by Danny Saber, Greg Hampton and Alice himself, ‘Along Came A Spider’ manages to marry both vintage and modern day Alice. As theatrical as ever, the album is a sonic combination of familiar Alice musical elements from albums as diverse as ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ and ‘Brutal Planet,' with the storytelling of "Welcome To My Nightmare," capturing the historic dark side of Alice in peak form, an instantly recognizable presence that will be welcomed by his fans. Joining Alice on the album are members of his touring band - longtime Alice drummer Eric Singer, bassist Chuck Garric, and guitarists Keri Kelli and Jason Hook, with additional contributions from others, including Saber, Hampton, and renowned backing vocalist Bernard Fowler.

Saber and Hampton co-wrote several of the album's songs with Alice, while others were collaborations with Alice's band members. Danny Saber, best known for his role as member and producer of Black Grape, has also worked with many other artists, including the Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, and David Bowie, while Greg Hampton's been working on a new album project teaming up Buckethead and Bootsy Collins.

Who else but Alice Cooper, with ‘Along Came A Spider,' would create a "love story" about a serial killer named Spider? His trademark is wrapping his victims in silk, and his victims are specifically chosen to feed his hunger to kill. But, upon meeting his (possibly) last victim, he falls in love with her and cannot kill to complete his plan. That could be his demise.

Though it is often said about artists with as rich a history as Alice that their newest albums capture the essence of their greatest work, it may honestly be proposed that ‘Along Came A Spider’ does exactly that. It's got hard rock with hooks, an Alice trademark (“Vengeance is Mine,” “I Know Where You Live”), classic balladry, another Alice trademark (“Killed by Love,” “Salvation”), and always with an overtone of evil, yet another Alice tradmark. Throughout the album, Alice BECOMES Spider, telling the story of a cold-blooded killer to life vocally, as if this were the soundtrack to an as-yet unmade horror film.

Ozzy Osbourne lends some harmonica work on a track he co-wrote, “Wake the Dead," and Slash lends some guitar style to "Vengeance Is Mine."

Before such theatrical rockers as David Bowie, the New York Dolls, Kiss, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, and Marilyn Manson, there was Alice Cooper. The original Alice Cooper group quickly became despised by adults and authority figures, while being idolized by teens and rock fans everywhere, on the strength of a succession of all-time classic albums ('Love It to Death,’ ‘Killer,’ ‘School’s Out,’ ‘Billion Dollar Babies,’ etc.) and anthems (“I’m Eighteen,” “Under My Wheels,” “School’s Out,” "Elected," “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” etc.). Alice had continued success as a solo artist, releasing successful albums like ‘Welcome To My Nightmare' and 'Trash,' featuring classic hits such as "Only Women Bleed," "I Never Cry," and "Poison." All one has to do is look at the many other artists that have covered Alice to understand how far reaching his influence is - the list is endless -- or just keep in mind that Johnny Rotten auditioned for the Sex Pistols to the tune of "I'm Eighteen.

1. Prologue/I Know Where You Live

Guitarist Jason Hook has posted the following message about what he's been up to:
"Well we're half way through May and progress (on his new solo record) is slow.... I have finished three more songs (2 instrumentals and one cover). I'm trying to get everything finished before we leave on tour in July. New titles are "Bitterness, Hatred and Violence" and "Serial Kill-Her" . Overall, I would say this record is a lot darker than 'Safety Dunce'. I also recorded a version of "Big Time" by Peter Gabriel but done METAL style. It's very different from the original and will probably include a guest vocal."
MonkeyHead is an original project spawned by Jason Hook and singer Simon Davies. Their album was originally released in 2001 as a Japanese import but is now available from jasonhook.net as a digital download. click here to see more.

Who is the Jackalope? 08 May 2008

This week on Channel 3 Good Morning Arizona has taken a roadtrip in which they encounter a 'Jackalope' (which appears to be a guy dressed up in a rabbit suit?!?). There is also a contest to win an Itouch Ipod by guessing who's in the suit. Several clues were given away each day last week.
1. This local celebrity ran track at Cortez High School.
2. This famous person had an article in the school newspaper
entitled."Get out of my hair".
3. This Musician's first bands were "The Earwigs" "The Nazz" and "The Spiders".
And the possible choices were: Royal Norman, Brandon Webb, Shaquille O'Neal, Alice Cooper, Leslie Nielsen, Steve Nash, Eric Byrnes, Chris Parker.
Obviously the answer isn't too hard for anyone reading this site!
Tomorrow (Friday May 9th) they will unveil the Jackalope and pick the winner of the Itouch. More info here, which also has a short video advertising the event and a pic of the 'Jackalope'.

According to the promotors " the concert will be "free" with paid fair admission, however you must have a pass to allow you into the concert. Those free passes are distributed through remote locations that The Twins 98.3 (radio station) set up starting Memorial Weekend until fair starts July 30. If you know someone in the area here that could drive to one of the remote broadcasts and pick up your pass that is the way to do it. The station will not give away passes out the door or through mail."

Guitarist Steve Hunter has released a new solo album entitled 'Hymns for Guitar'. The album was produced by Bob Ezrin. Hymns for Guitar’ is Steve’s acoustic guitar arrangements of some of his favorite old American hymns. Many of these great melodies were written in the mid 1800s. “When I was a very little boy....maybe 4 or 5 years old...my grandmother would occasionally take me to Sunday church with her. I always enjoyed the sound of people gently and quietly singing those beautiful old hymns. My main goal was to try to recreate the warm, peaceful sound with acoustic guitars that I had heard as a boy in church”. The album can be purchased at Guitar Nine and at CD Baby! Sound clips are available at both sites.

STUK has been stateside for the last week so there's a little catching up to do on the news front.

Alice has been talking about the forthcoming abum, 'Along Came A Spider' and here's what he had to say:
'..the album is based on a fictional serial killer named Spider, who wraps his victims in a silk web. "Every song is sort of a letter to the police," he explains. "They think they're investigating it from the outside, but he's actually woven them into the whole thing." Cooper has international tour dates booked from July through October. For the "Along Came A Spider Tour," which will most likely begin in 2009, Cooper says he plans to model each show after an old radio drama, like "The Shadow."  "Nobody has ever done that, in the format of a '40s radio cliffhanger kind of thing," he notes. "I want people actually playing detectives between the songs."
The album is apparently "75% done" and is currently aimed at a August release date. It's being co-produced by Greg Hampton and Danny Saber in Los Angeles.

Superbowl News 16 Jan 2008

A few days ago a new blog post was added to the official Alice Cooper Myspace page. Of note was the news that Alice will be playing shows in New Zealand (already announced), Australia and Japan around Easter time and the suggestion that it will be worth fans watching for Alice content during this years Superbowl. It appears this will be an appearance in an advert for 'Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire Unit' to be shown during the game. Quote: "Bridgestone, which is also sponsoring the game's halftime show, had its agency come up with concepts for 140 different commercials, which Bridgestone narrowed down to three now being produced. The tire maker will select two spots to air during the game. The company says it is using ad formulas that have worked for other companies in the past: animals, humor and celebrities -- in this case, Alice Cooper and Richard Simmons.
"The 'Tucson Citizen Editorial Board' has an article questioning why Alice isn't involved in this years famous Superbowl half time show, being that is happening in Arizona, his home State.

This release features their premier download single, 'This Year', the forthcoming follow up download '36 Hours' and two addition exclusive mixes of those tracks. All copies will be autographed by the band and you can grab this limited release here. The first 77 copies will come with a extra bonus gift. Anyone who reads this page regularly will know we're HUGE Roxie fans here at STUK and can't recommend happypill enough. You can still get the first 'Conscience Free Download' of "This Year" for free so take a listen!

The Dennis Dunaway Project have added their cover of Bowie's 'Moonage Daydream' to their Myspace page. In related news Dennis will also be appearing with Albert and Joe Bouchard in a new project called 'Blue Coupe'. Albert and Joe of course were members of Blue Oyster Cult throughout their classic years. The band will be playing 'Classic Hits' so I'm sure we can expect some familiar tunes. The first show will be January 19 at Pub 715, South Rte. 715, South Reeders, Pennsylvania.

Alice should be at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament about now and it will be shown on the Golf Channel in the USA.

Eric Dover's Sextus have released a video for their first single 'On The Freak Side' and you can watch it here.
