Signed Snakes 05 Dec 2017

Omnibus Press have set up a pledgemusic page to get signed copies of Dennis Dunaway's 'Snakes, Guillotines, Electric Chairs' book. This obviously relates to the earlier report that DD had signed a bunch of books for them while in the UK. Apparently they won`t ship to the US though!

Various videos of the show are up on Youtube including 'Grind' (with Calico), Ace Of Spades, and 'No More Mr Nice Guy'.

I mentioned a week or so ago that Alice received a 'Best International Artist' award backstage at the Glasgow Hydro show and it appears that this was part of the SSE Scottish Music Awards. The awards ceremony actually took place on December 3rd with Alice's award presentation being shown via a video clip recorded when the band were in Glasgow. Proceeds from the event went to Nordoff Robbins Scotland.

Alice will be seen briefly on the ABC's 'The Year In Memoriam 2017' on December 18th. This is a year end show remembering celebrities who have passed away during the year. Alice will apparently talk about Chuck Berry and Tom Petty.

Noisey have a review and photos from the recent Wembley show, with some rather glaring errors, but it's a review from a non-fan who took her mother to her first AC show so maybe mistakes are understandable. A little research wouldn`t have hurt though!

Alice has released a short video remembering AC/DC legend Malcolm Young which you can see here.

The UK press has had quite a bit of coverage about the forthcoming 'Urban Legends' show on Sky Arts. I mentioned the show some months back when it was announced UK comic and AC fan Noel Fielding would be playing Alice in the show which tells a version of the story of Alice meeting Dali. There still seems to be no air date, but photos of Fielding as Alice have been released, and this seems to be what has caused the flood of coverage as Fielding is currently co-hosting top rated show 'The Great Britsh Bake Off', and so everything he does is being reported. You can see the photos here, which include David Suchet as Dali.

Ryan Roxie posted the following on the recent passing of David Cassidy:
"When I say 'Keith' was a major influence growing up, most people assume it was Keith Richards. And although I have stolen many of Sir Richards clothing choices & guitar riffs over the years, the TRUE hero of my childhood was none other then 'Keith Partridge' a.k.a. the late great David Cassidy.
He's probably one of the main reasons I still get to drive around the world on a bus (albeit not a multi-colored school bus) and play in a band with family (yes, I consider this AC Band & Crew my extended family as we have spent more time together this year than with our own families back home!
I met David once back in the '90's, and I shook his hand and we exchanged a brief hello...that was enough for me. It was a crowded night club and he was about to go onstage and do what he had always done, entertain. All was good....I had shaken the hand of the man who had passed the 'torch of rock n roll' onto me. He had no idea the amount of inspiration he gave us adolescent rock n' rollers growing up in the '70's...but in the back of his mind, I think he did.
So on this Thanksgiving day 2017, I thank YOU, David Cassidy....and instead of getting bummed and sad about your passing, I will echo your sentiments and continue to try and make the world just a bit more positive then it was the day before....'C'mon, Get Happy' Cheers, 77"

Alice was mentioned on Dutch TV NTR last week and you can watch it here starting around 2.02 into the show. The interesting bit is that it apparently mentions that Alice will be interviewed for the show 'Top 2000 a Go Go' which will air at the end of December, so I suppose this is more of a heads up for that show.

Last night in Krefeld, Germany Alice and the band were joined on stage by German metal queen Doro Pesch for 'School's Out'. AC guitarist Tommy Henriksen wrote, recorded and toured with Doro for a few years back in the late 80s. You can watch video here. (Photo by Jan Fleuren)
Also at Krefeld Nita Strauss paid tribute to Malcolm Young of AC/DC, who sadly passed away yesterday, by starting her solo before 'Poison' with the riff from 'Thunderstruck'.

The latest edition of French magazine 'Rock & Folk' has an 8 page article about Alice Cooper and the reunion shows.

The Daily Mail in the UK has an article about Alice and the UK shows with a few mistakes (They didn`t play 'Elected', the name didn`t come from a TV show etc, and I doubt ANY Alice fan will be surprised to learn he plays golf, goes to church or is married...).

UK Tour Ends and News Catch Up 17 Nov 2017

The UK tour is over and it's time to catch up on everything that's happened over the last week or so, but first... well.. it was good wasn`t it! First the stunning Dublin shows, and then the five historic mainland shows with Neal, Dennis and Michael on stage with Alice again in the UK. I hope everyone who could get to the shows had as much fun as I did! As always there are a few thank you's: To Alice, Neal, Dennis, Michael, Ryan, Tommy, Chuck, Glen, Nita and Sheryl for putting on the best shows on the planet. To the Alice Cooper crew who work so hard to put on the show everynight. To Bujie, for what must at times have been super-human patience. To Kyler Clark for being an all round cool dude. To all the Sickthings from around the UK and the world, especially the 'Nation of Ovine', who I was able to spend time with (there is never enough). And finally the indisputable 'Man of the Year' Toby Mamis for his friendship and help above and beyond. Safe travels onwards and I hope we'll see you all again soon!

So, lets get to the news:

The Hollywood Vampires will play Samsung Hall in Zurich, Switzerland on July 3rd. Tickets are on sale now. The band will also perform at Hellfest in France which takes place between June 22nd and 24th, and there are strong rumours they *may* be at Download this year but that hasn`t been confirmed.

There's new interviews from The Scotish Sun, Dublin Nova, BBC 6 Music, and KJZZ.

Dublin Live has a report on what Alice got up to off stage in Ireland (yes, it's golf related).

Live reviews and photos come from: The Telegraph, Yorkshire Evening Post, Rockshot, The Scotsman, Birmingham Mail, Express and Star, Manchester Evening News, Lancashire Telegraph, Financial Times, and The Sun.

On his one day off in the UK Alice travelled back down to London for the opening of a multimedia art installation called 'The Adoration Trilogy: Searching for Apollo.' It’s a collaboration between The Who‘s Roger Daltrey and photographer Alistair Morrison, and it was unveiled at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. A whole host of music legends were there including Daltrey, John Paul Jones, Peter Frampton, Donovban, Carl Palmer, Paul Weller, Bill Wyman, Tom Jones and Peter Gabriel. Reports and photos can be seen at Best Classic Bands, Daily Mail, and Rock107.

Penny Black Music interviews Steve Hunter about his new (and excellent) solo album 'Before The Lights Go Out'.

Finally this last one actually appeared just before the tour began but is too good not to mention. Fast forward to about the 17 minute mark for the cutest Alice Cooper review you will ever hear by 8 year old Chloe O'Donovan.

Drummer Whitey Glan R.I.P. 08 Nov 2017

Legendary 'Welcome To My Nightmare' drummer Pentti “Whitey” Glan passed away yesterday, November 7th. Whitney first started playing back in 1965 with 'The Rogues' who became 'Mandala' shortly afterwards and toured Canada with their a hit single 'Loveitis'. In the mid-70s he was chosen by Bob Ezrin to back Lou Reed, which led to being part of the 'Welcome To My Nightmare' band on both album and tour. He became an in demand session player, appearing on maybe 100s of records including Bette Midler's 'The Rose' (with other members of the 'Nightmare' band) and Van Morrisons 'Moondance', but he always stayed in touch with the Alice Cooper organisation, visiting them at shows when they were in the area. Glan was diagnosed with lung cancer last October. All our sympathies to his family and friends.
UPDATE: Alice has posted the following statement: "I picked Whitey Glan for the 'Welcome To My Nightmare' tour because he was simply the best drummer around, not knowing he could drink me under a table! Everybody who worked with Whitey was his best friend. He was certainly one of rock's premier drummers, but he was under-rated and under-publicized.  Canada is less one world class musician now".

Note: There may not be many more updates for the next week or so as the UK dates are coming up so I'll be away from home. Keep an eye on the forums and facebook as news will probably appear there before I can post it. Also don't forget that the times on many tickets for the UK tour are wrong. The doors should open around 6pm and The Tubes are set to start at 7pm.

Cooperstown Phoenix Closes 23 Oct 2017

News is surfacing that the Alice's Cooperstown bar and resturant in Phoenix closed yesterday. I've not found any reasons or official announcements, but it appears the venue had been in trouble for a while. The first Cooperstown (and possible now last), it was the venue of many notable Alice related events including reunions by the original band and a 'Glen Buxton Memorial Weekend'.
UPDATE: The restaurant released the following statement to ABC15: “After 20 years we are sad to close Cooperstown. Thank you to all the loyal staff and patrons. It was a good run!”

There looks to be a "Tour Edition" of 'Paranormal' coming out shortly. No details yet of what will be different about it, but it is listed as a single CD.

An important note to fans going to the UK shows. Many tickets state the shows starts at 7.30. This is incorrect. The Tubes are due on at 7pm each night and doors should be opening around 5.30- 6pm so make sure you are there in time. You don't want to miss The Tubes!
Also, please bare in mind there will be probably be extra security at the doors at all venues, following the tragic bombing in Manchester, so make sure you allow time for that. I would suggest taking as few extra bags or belongings as possible to help them get everyone inside on time. It's a pain, but we can't blame them for taking every precaution so let's make it as easy and painless as we can.

Nita Strauss can been seen in a new video by guitarist Angel Vivaldi called 'Serotonin' which features the two shedders facing off.

RIP Janice Langan 03 Oct 2017

I've just heard that UK superfan Janice Langan passed away suddenly last night. Janice was a regular presence on the UK tours, as well as being very active on the various Alice Cooper facebook pages, including the "Legendary Alice Cooper" facebook group which she co-ran. Being an Alice Cooper fan was a huge part of her life and she will be missed. Our condolences go out to her family and friends.

Of course yesterday the rock world also lost Tom Petty, and Alice posted the following in tribute:
"Unfortunately I never got the chance to work with Tom Petty and I never properly got to know him, but he was always one of those artists everyone wanted to work with, myself included. It was so rare to find someone who commands such universal respect in this business. He was a rock n roll lifer with music in his blood. This man delievered a wealth of great songs to his fans and to the world and that is something to celebrate. He was an honest renegade, a rebel and a true original. I read that he only really felt himself in the studio and on the road and to that I can truly relate. Rest In Piece Tom and sincere condolences to your family, your friends and your countless fans around the world."

Steve Hunter Releases 'Before The Lights Go Out' 23 Sep 2017

Guitar Legend Steve Hunter To Release New Album “Before The Lights Go Out”

The Deacon Of Rock Bites Back!
“Before The Lights Go Out” is long time Alice Cooper/Lou Reed Guitarist Steve Hunter's latest solo album. The cover art and title make a statement about his failing eyesight, but don't make the mistake of thinking this is a quiet wave goodbye. As soon as you put on the first track, you will know that this is more like a Blues Rock Declaration of Independence! There are sexy grooves, luscious guitar tones and melodies galore.
As with all Hunter's releases, there is some diversity and sound imagery, not least of which is 'Tienes Mi Corazn' where alongside his nylon string improvisation comes the sound of his own heart. And listen out for Joe Satriani adding his fire to the heat of “Mojo Man.”
Also joining Steve on a couple of tracks are two great Bass players: Erik Scott can be heard on “Mojo Man,” Erik is also an Alice Cooper alumni. On “Under The Bodhi Tree” is Andy Stoller. Steve and Andy toured together with Tracy Chapman during the “Telling Stories” album period, most recently Andy has been touring with Ann Wilson of Heart.
Watch the album sampler video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBYCZ_sPVVA
To pre-order Steve Hunter's “Before The Lights Go Out” at iTunes. CDBaby link to follow. Official release date is September 25th.
Steve Hunter is his own man; he has been around the block with a forty-five year career.
From his 1973 solos on Alice Cooper's “Billion Dollar Babies” album, his legendary acoustic work on Peter Gabriel's “Solsbury Hill,” his “Intro” to Lou Reed's “Sweet Jane” and his searing opening solos on Aerosmith's version of “Train Kept A Rolling” Most recently he can be heard on Alice Cooper's 2017 album “Paranormal” making this his ninth Cooper album appearance. The Deacon is not done yet but his life is evolving! He has challenges playing live now but his honed skill, tone, power and soul, is dished up on this hot plate of guitar driven instrumental tastiness.
 Ful Track List:
1.   On The Edge Of Uncertainty
2.   Mojo Man
3.   Summer's Eve
4.   Cinderblock
5.   Softtail Deuce
6.   Tienes Mi Corazen (You Have My Heart)
7.   Ice Storm
8.   Under The Bodhi Tree
9.   The Other Side Of The Coin
10. Happy Trails  (vocal Karen Hunter)

Ultimate Classic Rock, Rolling Stone, and Cleveland Scene, have new interviews with Alice.

A woman in New Orleans is trying to sue Glen Sobel after a loose drum stick hit her during a show at the Saenger Theater that supposedly left her with injuries to her head, face and right eye. She claims the injury happened during the end of 'School's Out' so it seems unlikely Glen "suddenly and without warning... flung a drumstick into the air" and more likely he simply lost his grip on it. Whatever the circumstances, her claim that "hurling a drumstick into a crowd of patrons without warning” was an act of “negligence.” is obviously silly, as drummers have been throwing their sticks to fans for decades, not to mention the canes and whips that get thrown out every night at shows. Maybe she was busy with her phone...

Live reviews come from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (with the classic line "If there isn't an unwritten rule, let's just make it now, that you don't go on after Alice Cooper."), Southgate News-Herald, Live In Limbo, and 101WRIF (photos).

Tthe Miami Herald have an article about the 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' movie (just out on DVD) which, while not concentrating on Alice's involvement, has some interesting background information about this notorious turkey of a movie.

'The Nightmare' Arrives On DVD 11 Jul 2017

In the last few weeks various japanese sites have been surfacing with listings for a new DVD featuring the 1975 'Welcome To My Nightmare' live concert film. While this in itself wouldn`t be that exciting (it's been released several times over the years), what IS exciting with these listings is that they said it will come with the first DVD release of 'The Nightmare' TV Special, something we've been asking for for years! Well, it now seems to be official, and the DVD will get a worldwide release on September 8th!
'The Nightmare' is the original 1975 TV show companion to Alice's first solo album, and features slightly different versions of all the songs from the album, plus 'Ballad Of Dwight Fry', along with guest appearances by horror legend Vincent Price throughout. A VHS tape of the show was officially released in the early 80s but quickly vanished again, so up until now the only way of seeing it was either bootleg copies or on Youtube. There's no information yet as any other details about this release, including whether it will have Alice and Brian Nelson's classic commentary for the live film that was originally only available on the US Rhino version of the concert film, or how much work has been done to improve sound or picture, but the simple fact it's finally being released should be exciting enough!

Today's press 01 Jul 2017

Thursday's press launch has resulted in various short mentions in the UK and world press. Most consist of simply pulling short quotes out from the Q&A but a few are a little more interesting. One worth talking about is from 'The Sun' who have taken a few comments Alice made about politics, and added a completely frabricated context which wasn't mentioned or suggested in what he actually said during the Q&A. They headline the short report with "Alice Cooper hits out at Glastonbury for bringing politics to the Pyramid Stage following Jeremy Corbyn’s speech". Alice didn't mentioned Glastonbury or Corbyn at all while explaining his often repeated opinion that rock and roll and politics shouldn't mix. As previously, he explained that going to a rock show should be about escaping normal everyday issues like politics, and just having fun. The Glastonbury context is completely false and simply made up by the writer, presumably looking to push their own agenda. As usual, don't believe all you read, especially in The Sun!
Yesterday Alice turned up at the Silver Clef Awards in London. Chieftain have a short video from the red carpet and lots of photos from the event are appearing on facebook and elsewhere.

Alice is scheduled to appear on BBC Radio 4 show 'Loose Ends' today at around 6.15. It should be available to 'listen again' shortly afterwards.

PennyBlackMusic have an excellent, long interview with Cindy Smith Dunaway which includes lots of background to her involvement with the early days of the band. Well worth reading.
You can also now watch the video version of 'The Rocker Dad' podcast interview with her husband Dennis Dunaway on YouTube.

The Guardian have followed up their recent webchat with Alice, by reprinting an old article from way back in 1972. Unfortunately they also have a mid-80s photo accompanying it... Still, it's the thought that counts!

London Album Launch 30 Jun 2017

Very Big ChairLast night was the official 'Paranormal' album launch which took place at the 'hidden masonic lodge' in the  Andaz Hotel, London, which was a cool setting for the event, and has an interesting back story. The very plush hotel is built on the site of the old Bedlam hospital for the insane and was only discovered relatively recently during construction work, having been forgotten about for years. You can read a little history and see some pics here to give you an idea. Chairs were arranged in the center of the room with press folders for everyone including a welcome letter, a sheet of European tour dates, and a signed photo of the album cover.

The evening began with a brief intro from our hosts from earMusic before they proceeded to play selected tracks from the forthcoming 'Paranormal' record. The sound system wasn't great to be honest, and while good enough to get a feel for some of the songs it wouldn't really be fair to completely judge things from just this single playback. Also bare in mind these are my personal first impressions and not meant to be a proper review of the record.
They began with the title track, 'Paranormal', which brings to mind early 'The Who'. It sounded a little disjointed on first listen but I'm sure when we get to hear it properly it will all come together better. Next up was 'Dead Flies' which has a Hendrix feel/groove along the lines of maybe 'Fire' or 'Crosstown Traffic'. "It's all Lies, We're Dead Flies". They then skipped ahead to 'Fallen In Love (And I Can't Get Up) which has Billy Gibbons all over it, sounding not unlike Alice singing on a real ZZ Top track, with that familiar blues swagger. I also think I heard a few old song references including 'Billion Dollar Babies' and Desperado' in the lyrics.
By now it was becoming clear what Alice meant when a few months back he referred to the album having a "70s feel". He didn`t really mean an Alice Cooper 70s feel, but more a general 70s rock feel, and I think comparing it to 'Killer' was a bit of a red herring!
'Private Public Breakdown' was next up and has more of an 80s big rock feel to it. Kiss (around the 'Lick It Up' period) was my first thoughts. 'Holy Water' though has another change of pace, with an almost jazzy groove (more 'Blue Turk' then 'Last Man On Earth') including horns, and what felt like a LOT of lyrics which could have had a duel meaning, both telling a story and having some religious undertones as well, but as with all these songs it really would need to be heard properly to fairly judge. This was probably the one that sounded most interesting up to that point, and I wrote "best???" in my hastily scribbled notes. That was until they followed it up with 'The Sound Of A'. This sounds like the real winner on the album. Very Pink Floydian and maybe the longest track on the album, allowing the song to build naturally which is something I think has too often been missing on recent material. This could be a future classic and I can't wait to hear it properly.
Finally, we got to hear one of the two new original Alice Cooper band songs, 'Genuine American Girl', which I think Alice later mentioned was a Neal Smith song. It starts with Neal laying down a drum beat before heading off into a kinda Beach Boys/Surf groove. If you are hoping for something that actually sounds like 70s Alice Cooper this isn't really it, but it's a cool number if not a classic. There's some nice duel guitar playing which I think I heard is Michael Bruce and Nick Didkovsky of the 'Pretties For You NYC band. There's also a nice Mae West quote in there somewhere.
So that was the end of the playback. All in all most of the songs sounded promising with a couple of obvious stand outs, but as I say, I don't really feel I could call it based on just this first hearing. I'm looking forward to hearing everything properly.

Playback over, it was time for Alice to make his appearance at the back of the room, making his way down to the front while marvelling at the decor, and promptly tripping up, landing face first on the stone floor! At first I thought he was joking around but no it was for real. Luckily he seemed okay and made his way to the large 'throne' at the front of the room. Amusingly, if you look at the photos you'll see some latin writing above the chair which we were told actually translates as 'Very Big Chair'! Who said secret societies didn't have a sense of humour!
There followed a brief Q and A with Alice, most of which to be honest readers here will have heard before, but Alice is always a great interview so it's easy to just enjoy it. They covered a little background on the album recording, the guests, and the November UK shows with Dennis, Michael and Neal, confirming the basic setup will be the same as the recent Nashville reunion. Alice also took a few minutes out, unprompted, to mention the sadly missed Glen Buxton, praising him as a truly unique talent and character who he still misses to this day. The affection for his fallen friend was clear even after all these years.
A mention that the interviewer had been with Pink Floyds' David Gilmour earlier in the day (can I have his job!!) who had told him to say "hi" to Alice saying they went "way back" prompted the old Pink Floyd stories about the band with Syd Barrett staying with the original band for a few days back in the late sixties. All very cool.
After a few more questions from the assembled audience of radio and magazine journos everything wrapped up with photos and autographs for those who wanted them before Alice and Sheryl headed off, hand in hand, to the next interview or event he was probably late for!
All in all it was a very enjoyable evening, and I extend my thanks to Toby for the invite, and the lovely people at earMusic for being such friendly hosts and making me feel so welcome at their event. Now I just need the real album even more!

Phew, well with all that written up I should also mention Alice's was up and about again first thing this morning, appearing on 'The Chris Evans Breakfast Show' again on BBC Radio 2, this time in person along with various other guests including Steve Winwood who plays a few songs live in the studio. This interview was much more disjointed then yesterdays ones, being that Alice was just one of four or more guests on air at the same time, but you can listen again now on the Radio 2 site.

Chris Moyles Show This Morning 29 Jun 2017

Alice appeared on 'The Chris Moyles Show' on London's 'Radio X' early this morning for a long 45 minute interview which, while covering a lot of the normal stories, was a cut above the norm. Moyles had done his research and the result is well worth listening to, which you can do now here. Alice appears around 1.45 into the show. The interview was also broadcast live on facebook.
Alice later appeared on Planet Rock, which I missed as I was listening to the Moyles interview! The replay should appear here shortly or is on facebook.

Original Band To Perform Mini-Set on UK Dates 14 Jun 2017

AC.Com has confirmed that Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith and Michael Bruce will be joining Alice Cooper for a mini-set during the forthcoming UK shows in November, similar to the recent reunion in Nashville. The official text goes as follows:
"On May 14th, 2017 following Alice Cooper’s customary execution via guillotine on stage at his Nashville concert, fans were treated to something rarely seen since 1973. The stage went dark and original band members, bassist Dennis Dunaway, guitarist Michael Bruce and drummer Neal Smith reunited to perform a five song mini-set of their classic hits with Alice.
This followed the recent announcement that his forthcoming album – Paranormal, out July 28th on earMUSIC – will include two new recordings written and recorded by the original line-up (“Genuine American Girl and “You And All Of Your Friends”).
Now, Alice announces that the three members of the original Alice Cooper band will join him on tour in the UK, returning to these shores 46 years after they first shocked and enthralled us on their historic 1971 tour.
In Nashville, they were joined by current band member Ryan Roxie filling in for the late Glen Buxton on guitar. The band ripped through “I’m 18,” “No More Mr Nice Guy,” “Muscle of Love,” “Billion Dollar Babies” and then closed with “School’s Out,” bringing back current band members – drummer Glen Sobel, bassist Chuck Garric, and guitarists Nita Strauss and Tommy Henriksen for a grand finale."
UPDATE: Alice has posted a short video of the announcement on instagram.

Australian Shows Upgraded 13 Jun 2017

According to Noise11 there are two changes to the Australian tour dates due to ticket demand. The Melbourne show has been moved from the Evonne Goolagong Arena to the Rod Laver Arena, about twice the size, and the Brisbane Convention Center show will now take place at the Brisbane Entertanment Center. Presumably all original tickets will remain valid.

Some people may have seen a viral video doing the rounds on facebook recently of the young guy, Johnny Crow, who sadly lost his father just before his 16th birthday, only to discover his father had put his birthday present away for him before he died... his dream guitar! Well, to prove there are still good people in this world members of social media site Reddit wanted to do something and together raised over $16,000 for the kid, to go towards guitar lessons, strings an everything else he might need to go with his fathers present and one member also got him another guitar! The reason I report this particular story is that another of Johnny's birthday presents was apparently tickets to go see Alice Cooper. On seeing this Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss contacted the family and arranged for aftershow meet and greet passes for Johnny to meet Alice himself at the show. Way to go Nita.

The Daily Emerald and Westword have new interviews with Alice.

Alice's recent interview with Arthur Brown on 'Nights With Alice Cooper' has been posted to YouTube.

Mankato Free Press has a review of last Friday's show.

Paranoiac Personality Single Due June 9th. 31 May 2017

According to a post on Blabbermouth 'Paranoiac Personality', the first single from new album 'Paranormal', will be officiialy released on Friday June 9th. That suggests that Alice will be playing the single on 'Nights With Alice Cooper' the same day or possibly just before. The article also suggests that just two songs with the original band made the album, but this could be an error as previous press has stated it will be three songs (with other material on the bonus disc).

Blabbermouth also has live footage from Nita Strauss's new band 'We Start Wars' at their live debut in West Hollywood ,CA last week.

Sonoma News has an article about Tom Silberkleit, who claims to hold the rights to the 1975 'Welcome To My Nightmare' Wembley concert film on which his father was a producer. Tom will be at the Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, CA on June the 1st for a screening of his 35mm copy of the film, with a Q&A afterwards.

Manchester 23 May 2017

Alice Cooper has posted the following on facebook about the horrific events last night in Manchester: "My heart goes out to the people of Manchester and all of the UK. Manchester is one of the heart and soul cities of the UK, and having been there many, many times over the past 40+ years, I've gotten to know the city and the people there pretty well. I cannot pretend to know or even imagine the pain of the parents, brothers, sisters and other family members and friends of the innocent victims of this, these mostly young music fans having just enjoyed the concert. But I know that the people there will stand together and stay strong."
Alice has of course played the Manchester Arena several times, and is due to return there on November 15th.

Alice and Tommy Henriksen turned up with Ken Hensley (ex-Uriah Heep) in Krasnodar, Russia on May 20th as part of the 'Stairway To Heaven' charity concert. From the video it appears to be Hensley's show until about an hour in when first Tommy, and then Alice (in full make up and costume), appear on stage and preceed to take the band through 'Under My Wheels', 'No More Mr Nice Guy', 'Be My Lover', 'I'm Eighteen' and 'School's Out'. It all sounded really good and well rehearsed as well!

Meanwhile, Nita Strauss was at the Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, OH playing the US national anthem. The event didn`t go quite to plan though, as just as she was about to take the stage the venue was evacuated due to an incoming storm. "I was literally on the Rock on the Range stage with my guitar in my hands, ready to play the National Anthem with the Marine color guard... and they shut the whole place down for a storm". Obviously someone heard that Hurricane Nita was in town and was taking no chances! Lucky the storm passed without incident and Nita got her chance!

Dennis Dunaway has posted a report of the Nashville shows from his perspective, which you can read at DennisDunaway.com. Steel Notes Magazine has part two of their epic interview with Dennis online now here.

Chris Cornell R.I.P. 19 May 2017

Most of you will probably have already sen the sad news yesterday that Chris Cornell, frontman of Soundgarden and Audioslave, as well as co-writer/performer on 'The Last Temptation', passed away unexpectedly in his hotel room shortly after leaving the stage in Detroit. I only saw Cornell live once at a rainy Hyde Park festival show with Aerosmith, where during his hour long set he wiped the floor with the headliners with ease. Such a great lose to music. Alice posted the following late last night:
"‘Chris Cornell, in our circle, was known as “The Voice” because he had the best voice in rock and roll. I was lucky enough to write and record two songs with him. His death comes as a total shock to all of us. 'Black Hole Sun' will live on as a classic, and his is a true legacy of rock and roll."
Nita Strauss posted the following: "Superunknown was one the first albums I had as a kid that really had an impact on the way I thought about my life. Shortly after I started listening to this, I got my first guitar and everything changed. Soundgarden was one of those bands that I kept missing, being out of town... I was going to see them for the first time tomorrow. What a huge, huge loss this is for the music world... Let's all celebrate Chris Cornell's amazing voice today by listening to all the music he made that did so much for all of us. #RIP"
Chuck Garric: "We are so saddened by the sudden death of Chris Cornell. Such an amazing talent, beautiful voice and poet! His words, music and concerts spoke to us. LOUD/LOVE."

Reunion Day 2 16 May 2017

The 'Music Biz 2017' show last night was reportedly an even better performance then Sunday's show, and longer! After receiving their award from Bob Ezrin the band stormed through 'I'm Eighteen', 'Under My Wheels', 'Billion Dollar Babies', 'No More Mr Nice Guy', 'Muscle Of Love' and 'School's Out'. You can check out some videos, including Bob's speech, on the STUK facebook page courtesy of Andrew Clark.

Nashville Reunion 15 May 2017

So the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived. A black curtain dropped to reveal a giant 'Billion Dollar Babies' backdrop behind Michael, Neal and Dennis on stage together again for their own mini-set at the end of the normal Alice show. Neal had a second kit set up on a riser behind Michael on the left, with Dennis and Roxie (standing in for Glen again) on the right, and after a brief intro launched into their first hit single, 'I'm Eighteen' with Alice appearing at the back of the stage next to Neal. 'Billion Dollar Babies' followed, then 'No More Mr Nice Guy' and 'Muscle Of Love' before they were rejoined by Chuck, Nita, Tommy and Glen for the climatic 'School's Out' with balloon's, confetti and explosions to bring the show to a close. They sounded fantastic going by the videos and seemed to be having a great time! Let's hope it happens again soon!

The 12 track main album will come with a bonus 'mini-album' featuring three tracks by the original band (Alice, Dennis, Neal and Michael) plus "carefully selected live recordings". The article also mentions Deep Purple's Roger Glover can be added to the guest list that already included Michael Bruce, Neal Smith, Dennis Dunaway, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and Larry Mullens Jr (U2). Alice has also mentioned two song titles: "I've Fallen In Love & I Can't Get Up" and "I Wanna Be A Genuine American Girl".

Paranormal? 03 May 2017

Alice was on 'The Mad Rock Morning Show' on Mad Rock 102.5 a couple of days ago and you can listen to the interview here. During the show he talked about various things including the new album, which he said will be called 'Paranormal'!
After a little searching I found the following that appears to be from a new Australian interview with 'May The Rock Be With You'.
"Well I’ve got a new album coming out in July and it’s called ‘Paranormal’ and it’s Bob Ezrin and I, Bob is producing. Larry Mullen is playing drums on it from U2, that’s a whole different thing, Billy Gibbons plays on one of the songs, from ZZ Top, and then it’s really all stuff that Bob and I just decided we’re going to do an album of stuff that we like. So it goes all over the place but it’s still a guitar rock album, we decided no story-line in this one, the songs all have a story but there’s no connecting sort of string that connects the songs all together. So that’s why we called it ‘Paranormal’ it’s sort of other than normal for us."

The current Alice Cooper band had a surprise guest at their club show on Monday at 'The Nick' in Birmingham, AL and it wasn't the one you maybe could have expected. Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen joined the band for a few songs in what by all reports was a storming show. You can check out video on Youtube.

Minnesota Troubles 04 Mar 2017

Alice seems to have been caught up in a story about a little old lady in Minnesota who is objecting to the upcoming show there. Apparently she claims that during a recent concert at the Vetter Stone Amphitheater she registered decibels at her home, which is extremely unlikely unless she lives inside the venue in front of the speakers! She also claims to have " looked up the lyrics" and doesn`t think "it’s wise for our community to have to listen to foul language" which raises a few questions considering there's no foul language in Alice Cooper lyrics! South Minnesota News has video.
Alice hit facebook to respond: "Across the river from my #Mankato gig (June 9th, Vetter Stone Amphitheater, tickets on sale now) is a woman who hates the noise generated by shows. She says she experienced 110db at her home during Nelly's recent performance. Now, noise of that magnitude would annoy me too. But sound doesn't travel that well over long distances, so 110db at her home, across the river... That doesn't sound like an accurate number unless the audience at Nelly's show had their spleens ruptured by the loudest show on record (encore!).
We carry decibel meters, and according to my audio guys 110db is a number you'd see inside the venue at the sound board, but the laws of physics dictate it would spread and dissipate over that distance. 110db at her house sounds like a stretch unless she happened to meter the concert sound while 1,000 cats were meowing in her home at exactly the same time...
That seems SUPER unlikely given the circumstances so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. I'm a "Nice Guy" after all. I guess I COULD have my snake swim over some earplugs... It's the least I could do."

In slightly more serious news Dennis Dunaway and Al Bouchard will be taking part in this years 'Joe Hurley's All Star Irish Rock Review' at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on March 11th. Tickets are available now.

ROCK THIS WAY!  The 3rd Annual Dick Wagner “Remember the Child” Memorial Concert to feature over 25 music legends, including Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), Suzi Quatro, Kip Winger, and more!
After a sold-out premiere in January 2015 and reprise concert in 2016, the Dick Wagner “Remember the Child” Memorial Concert returns for a star-studded sequel, presented by New Horizons Computer Learning Centers.  Concert is set for Friday March 24, 2017 at MotorCity Casino, Sound Board, in Detroit.
The concert is jam-packed with an all-star lineup featuring Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), Suzi Quatro & The Pleasure Seekers (Suzi is a groundbreaking female rocker & Happy Days’ “Leather Tuscadero”), Kip Winger (Winger), Robert Wagner, Jimmie Bones (Kid Rock), musical director & Grammy nominee Paul Brown, Johnny “Bee” Badanjek (Mitch Ryder, the Rockets), The Accidentals (Billboard’s 2015 Breakout Band at SXSW), Thornetta Davis, John Ellison (Some Kind of Wonderful), Danish shock rocker, Maryann Cotton, rock diva Miss Wensday, Detroit Music Award winners, Ray Goodman, Dennis Burr, David Winans II, Muruga Booker, and more!
All Concert profits Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, including Beaumont Children’s of Royal Oak and more. The Dick Wagner “Remember the Child” Fund (DWRTC), a 501(c)3 non-profit, creates and funds music therapy programs for hospitalized children. Each hospital receives funds to support the hiring of Board Certified Music Therapists as well as a broad selection of musical instruments.
The Dick Wagner Fund is proud to add Hurley Children’s Hospital, Flint, Michigan, as a beneficiary of 2017 concert profits. Flint water, contaminated with toxic lead poisoning, has adversely affected the health of thousands of children. Music therapy reduces the effects of lead poisoning on functional, behavioral, and cognitive skills.    The “Remember the Child” Concert honors the memory of legendary guitarist and songwriter, Dick Wagner, renowned for his lead guitar and songwriting with Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Aerosmith, Kiss, and Peter Gabriel, and his wildly popular early bands, The Frost and the Bossmen. Wagner co-wrote more than 100 songs with Cooper, including "Only Women Bleed," "I Never Cry," “You and Me,” and Welcome to My Nightmare, along with mega-hits for other artists. In his lifetime, Wagner donated his talent generously to benefit the lives of children, vets and the homeless. As Dick tells us, “There is more love in the human heart than can ever be given away.”
Celebrity-studded Live and Silent Auctions will feature autographed music and sports memorabilia, including guitars signed by The Hollywood Vampires (Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, and Joe Perry), Mark Farner, Kid Rock, Suzi Quatro, Alice Cooper, Sports Celebrities, Balloon rides, and more.

Nita Struass has released a new video for the instrumental "Pandemonium" from the 'She Rocks, Vol.1' compilation being put together by Steve Vai and set to be released on January 20th.
Nita says: "As you guys may or may not know by now, for the past year or so I've been focusing on writing and putting my band together, and while I always thought about making a solo album, I thought my energy would be better spent right now focusing on giving the band my all and making those songs as great as they could be.
But whenSteve Vai asked if I'd be a part of this compilation, you better believe I jumped at the chance!!!! I've always loved instrumental guitar music, and to step into this world for the first time and get to do it on 'Favored Nations Entertainment' alongside the other badass girls on the She Rocks album, is an honor and a privilege.
I'm extremely grateful to Steve Vai, Brad Tolinski and Laura B. Whitmore for including me on this compilation!! And I have a feeling this isn't the last instrumental music I'll be writing."
